The campaign within Megadimension Neptunia VII is lengthy and full of memorable moments. I also absolutely love the character progression systems that'll task you with synthesizing gear, assigning attacks to combo flowcharts, and unlocking achievements that provide stat boosts. On top of that, its battle system where you control each party member to run around an arena while performing skills is incredibly gratifying, especially the giant boss battles that have you hopping between suspended islands.

Performance issues aside, Megadimension Neptunia VII is still a solid game so if you only own a Switch then I still recommend playing it but if you have a PS4 then play it on that instead and if you have PlayStation VR then get Megadimension Neptunia VIIR.Īnyway, what makes it such a special game is its charming and cheerful game world that's filled with bubbly characters, hilarious scenes and references, and a sprinkle of naughty moments, too, that'll give you a chuckle. It really is strange that a 5 year old game that doesn't even have the greatest visuals in the first place can't run smoothly on Nintendo Switch. You'll also witness plenty of objects popping in which I found incredibly disorienting. Battles can be bad, too, but mostly when they first start. Although cutscenes and such look just fine, running through dungeons is where the frame rate suffers most and it sometimes looks like you're observing a flipbook. With that established, playing Megadimension Neptunia VII actually made me feel nauseous. Keep in mind I'm far from a performance snob who whines whenever the frame rate dips a little. When I first started playing it, I thought it was because it was undocked so after plugging the console into the base and trying it out on the big screen, I was surprised that it was still performing poorly.
More specifically, Megadimension Neptunia VII runs terribly on the console. However, would you want to? On one hand, this is a super-satisfying fun-filled JRPG that's a blast from start to finish but on the other hand, the Switch port is underwhelming to say the least. With all of that being said, what we have here is a port of the original version which is cool, especially if you haven't played it yet and would like the ability to adventure with Nep-Nep portably.
Not everyone favoured these alterations but I did and felt that they made the adventure more cohesive, rewarding, and enjoyable. I first played it when it released on PS4 then enjoyed Megadimension Neptunia VIIR a couple years back which features VR support as well as streamlines the gameplay and includes additional elements. Megadimension Neptunia VII is my favourite game in the series.
